The position will also involve supporting project coordination, field demonstrations and stakeholder interactions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently plan, design and conduct laboratory, pilot-scale and field experiments related to pyrolysis, gasification, torrefaction and biochar production.
  • Develop and optimize thermochemical conversion processes by evaluating operating parameters, process efficiency, product yield and product quality.
  • Conduct feedstock and product characterization and analyze producer gas/syngas, biochar, bio-oil and other process products.
  • Support the development, modification, integration and scale-up of thermochemical conversion systems from laboratory/bench scale to pilot and demonstration scale.
  • Develop experimental methodologies, SOPs and test protocols, and carry out systematic analysis and interpretation of experimental data.
  • Contribute to research proposals, project planning, technical documentation, project deliverables and preparation of research papers and conference presentations.
  • Support field demonstrations, project coordination and stakeholder interactions, while ensuring safe operation of experimental systems and compliance with laboratory and field safety protocols.

Essential Qualifications

  • M.E./M.Tech. in Renewable Energy, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Energy Engineering or a relevant discipline.
  • Preferably 1 years or more of relevant R&D/research experience in biomass energy, pyrolysis, gasification, torrefaction, biochar or related thermochemical conversion technologies.
  • Good understanding of biomass conversion, reactor systems, process engineering, and material and energy balance principles.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint for data analysis, technical reporting and presentations.

Desirable Skills / Competencies

  • Practical experience in thermochemical conversion experiments, biomass characterization and pilot-scale system operation.
  • Ability to independently analyze experimental data, troubleshoot systems and optimize process parameters.
  • Good technical writing, communication, documentation and teamwork skills, with an interest in research publications.

Tenure and Nature of Engagement

The position is project-based and temporary, initially for 11 months, subject to project requirements, performance and applicable institutional rules.
