🌱 SPRERI Organized Workshop on “Kitchen & Mandi Waste to Watts
Date:Â June 21, 2025
Venue:Â Sardar Patel Renewable Energy Research Institute (SPRERI), Vallabh Vidyanagar

Overview
Sardar Patel Renewable Energy Research Institute (SPRERI) successfully hosted a one-day business and technology workshop titled “Kitchen & Mandi Waste to Watts” on June 21, 2025. The event aimed to demonstrate SPRERI’s cutting-edge biomethanation technology, particularly its unique 3-day retention time, and foster collaborations across sectors involved in waste-to-energy solutions.
This initiative brought together a diverse group of stakeholders including industrialists, NGOs, housing societies, ashrams, gurukuls, hostels, and entrepreneurs working in the field of biogas and sustainable energy.
Key Highlights
🔹 Inaugural Address
Dr. A. K. Dubey, Director of SPRERI, delivered the opening address emphasizing SPRERI’s commitment to bridging the gap between laboratory innovations and real-world applications. He highlighted the importance of stakeholder engagement and collaborative efforts to scale renewable energy solutions.
🔹 Technical Session
Dr. Mukund Adsul, Principal Scientist and Head, Bioconversion Technology Division, provided detailed insights into SPRERI’s scalable, community-centric biogas systems, highlighting their operational efficiency, flexibility, and applicability for both rural and urban waste streams.
🔹 Case Study Presentation
Dr. Amrita Doshi, Senior Scientist and Head (I/C), Extension Division, presented a compelling case study on the 3.5 TPD biogas plant developed by SPRERI, showcasing the performance and impact of the biomethanation system.
🔹 Interactive Discussions
The workshop featured engaging discussions on key themes such as:
- Waste valorization and decentralized waste management
- The role of biogas in the circular economy
- Opportunities for public-private collaboration in waste-to-energy projects
These interactions laid the groundwork for potential partnerships and pilot deployments.
🔹 Demonstration and Plant Visit
Participants visited SPRERI’s 3.5 TPD biomethanation plant, where they observed the operational processes converting kitchen and mandi (market) waste into biogas and clean energy. The demonstration provided a practical understanding of the technology’s reliability and replicability.
Impact and Way Forward
The workshop served as a platform to showcase SPRERI’s technological advancements in the biogas sector and enabled meaningful exchanges between innovators, implementers, and community-based stakeholders.
As part of its mission to promote sustainable energy solutions, SPRERI remains committed to developing and disseminating decentralized, efficient, and cost-effective waste-to-energy technologies.
