Nature of Position: Project-based / Temporary

Remuneration: ₹20,000- 23,000/- per month

Tenure: 11 Months (likely to continue for two years)

 

The Project Associate will support research and development (R&D) activities in the Thermochemical Conversion Technology (TCCT) Division, with a primary focus on the conversion and valorization of biomass and agricultural residues through pyrolysis, gasification, torrefaction, biochar production, and producer gas/syngas generation.

 

The position involves laboratory, pilot-scale and field-level experimental activities, operation and monitoring of thermochemical conversion systems, feedstock and product characterization, experimental data analysis, process optimization, technical documentation, and support for project implementation and deliverables.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory, pilot-scale and field experiments on pyrolysis, gasification, torrefaction and biochar production from biomass and agricultural residues.
  • Operate, monitor and maintain thermochemical conversion systems, reactors, gasifiers and associated equipment.
  • Perform biomass/feedstock and product characterization, sampling, measurements and experimental data collection.
  • Optimize process parameters and analyze producer gas/syngas composition, product yield, efficiency, and mass/energy balances.
  • Prepare technical reports, experimental records, presentations, research papers and project-related documentation.
  • Support technology development, scale-up, field demonstrations, troubleshooting and other R&D activities as assigned by the Project Investigator/Division Head.

 

Essential Qualifications

  • B.E./B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Energy Engineering or a relevant discipline, with 1–2 years of relevant work experience.

Desirable Skills / Competencies

  • Basic knowledge of biomass energy, thermochemical conversion processes and biomass characterization.
  • Practical exposure to laboratory experimentation, data analysis and operation of laboratory/pilot-scale equipment will be preferred.
  • Good technical communication, documentation and teamwork skills, with basic proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint.

Tenure and Nature of Engagement

The position is project-based and temporary, initially for 11 months, subject to project requirements, performance and applicable institutional rules.

Work Environment

The position involves R&D, laboratory and pilot-scale experimentation, field activities, equipment operation, data analysis and technical documentation.
